Efficient Use of Space For Business Cards

January 22, 2010 Articles about Advertising No Comments

The space on business card printing is pretty small is it not? It can be hard to put everything you want to add into the business card, while sometimes for others it is hard to fill it up with good content. If you are having difficulty managing the space for your business card printing, here are a few tips on the efficient use of space for your cards.

•    Appropriate text sizes – You should know that the text size and spaces for your color business cards can be adjusted quite precisely. It is not just a matter of changing the size by “pts”. You can also change the text’s relative height, width, line spacing and character spacing to get the text precisely right for the space provided. A good desktop publishing application should be able to let you do this so that you can use the space for your business cards quite efficiently. So don’t get stuck with the common text sizes, use other font settings and experiment.

•    Standard layout positions – Now, if you study business card printing templates, you’ll see that there are a few standard layout positions that makes things a little efficient. For horizontal business cards, the center area of course is where most of the information should lie, while the rest of the minor details can be added at the bottom. A logo on the top center or on the top right is also good if you need a logo in your business card. These positions are ideal since these are the points where most people’s gazes travel as they see a new business card. If you choose an alternative to this kind of layout, you might sacrifice some of your business cards’ speed in communicating its message. So try to manage layouts precisely so that the thing you want to emphasize is the one seen first.

•    Background details you can add – Now to make your color business cards complete, it is good to have some good background details to add. The best thing to do is to use colored business cards with a good full color background. This adds some personality to your business card while becoming unique and effective at making people remember you. You might also want to try using full color gradients, or even a light watermark of your very own logo or picture. This should result into a fuller and more complete looking design.

•    Textured materials – Lastly, besides the color backgrounds, you can use the business card’s paper material for great effect to its looks. Using textures like satin, recycled paper, matte finish and other types of materials add shadowed textures and tactile effects that makes the whole business card look more complete. It might get a bit expensive in terms of business card printing when you use these options, but the effect can be quite memorable, making for an efficient layout for attracting readers.

So don’t just leave your business card with some white space in it. Try to see if there are other things you can do to this white space to maximize the design of your color business cards and make it more efficient. Good Luck!
